28th October 2009 - October proves difficult month for Clonakilty AFC sides
Clonakilty AFC rounded off a difficult month by defeating fellow West Cork League rivals, Dunmanway Town in a Munster Junior Cup second round tie in Inchydoney. Martin White scored the only goal of a dissapointing game early in the first half and the AFC held on to record a welcome 1-0 victory. Clon were knocked out of the UMBRO FAI Junior Cup the weekend before by yet another West Cork rival Drinagh Rangers 1-0. Attention turns to domestic matters this coming weekend with the eagerly anticpated visit of Skibbereen to Inchydoney in the Beamish Premier League. A single point seperates the two sides in th league ladder an a win is a must if the AFC are to begin their climb up the table.

The poor start to the Clonakilty AFC B's season shows little sign of improving with the second team rock-bottom of the Division 2 League table at the end of October. There have been smallsigns of improvement with the ageless Leo Flynn still knocking in the goals but the AFC B defence will have to improve if the second team are to enjoy any sort of success (a win) this season. Recent results this month included away lossess to Dunmanway Town B and Durrus.

1st October 2009 - Weekend of contrasting fortunes for Clonakilty AFC sides
Clonakilty AFC’s ‘A’ team travelled to Dunmanway last Sunday to play Togher Celtic. An impressive performance from the home side ended in a 2-0 victory with goals from D. Cronin and B. O’Sullivan. This was a disappointing defeat for the AFC team whose form has fluctuated so far this season. Next Sunday they make their seasonal debut in the Munster Junior Cup, against Cork side Island Tavern, hoping that a change of scenery may provoke an improved performance. Elsewhere the ‘B’ team suffered another defeat in Division 2 against Mizen AFC by a score of four goals to two. Goal scorers for the home team were Rory Houlihan and a goal of individual brilliance from Connor McKahey after a mazy run deep in the opposition half past several Mizen defenders. Although the match ended in defeat for the Clonakilty side, their performance at least merited a draw. Signs of improvement suggest that the elusive first win does not remain too far off.

The U12s were the standout team from the club last weekend having recorded another impressive victory with an 8-2 win over Bandon. Eight goals from the AFC XI claimed the three points, with Sean McEvoy (4), Paul Daly (2), Oisin Byrne among the goal scorers, along with an own goal. The u12 Youths suffered a 9-2 defeat away to a strong Sullane team with goals from Matthew Jennings and Darren Coakley rewarding a determined and spirited performance from the Youths.

Finally, all involved in the club wish to congratulate the Clonakilty footballers on their thrilling victory over St. Finbarr’s in the County final Sunday last.

Clonakilty AFC endured a frustrating end to the month of August. The AFC suffered a 4-0 hammering at the hands of title-contenders Ballydehob in Inchydoney and saw their scheduled game with Bunratty United postponed the following Sunday. Two upcoming home games in consecutive weeks against Togher Celtic and Crossmahon offer's Clon's first team the opportunity to bounce back from their recent poor displays.

The Clonakilty AFC B team have experienced a very disappointing start to life in the Beamish 2nd Division. Back to back defeats away to Sullane (2-7) and then Cloughduv (1-5) sees the B squad rock bottom of the table with no points from their opening three league games. The B team face two tough fixtures away to Courtmacsherry and then at home to Crookstown in the coming fortnight and will need every player to play to their optimum to turn around a terrible start to the 2009/10 campaign.
