Padriag
Horan (Goalkeeper)
"Paidi" turned out to be the find of the season
when he became the regular Number 1 between the ticks
for for Clon AFC earlier in the year. A serious mover
and shaker on the dance floor, Paidi has been one of
the club's most consistent performers all season. Also
played in the Under18 Cup final this year.
|
| |
|
| |
Phil
Hayes (Goalkeeper)
The club's other goalkeeper. Quiet and shy are
words you would never use to describe 'Big Phil'. Played
his heart out in goal for the Clon AFC team whenever
called upon during the year and is always good company.
|
| |
|
| |
Joe
Hennessey (Defender)
Joe is one the club's crowd favourites. The Gary Neville
of the team and one of the club's longest and most loyal
servants. Played consistently throughout the season
and gave his all in the right back position. A defender
who loves to tackle.
|
| |
|
| |
Jeff
O'Donoghue (Defender and Club Captain)
Jeff was one the side's best performers at centre-back
this year. Played his heart out and was sadly missed
in the latter stages of the league. The club's captain
played a pivotal role in winning the league title for
his club this year.
|
| |
|
| |
Mike
Sullivan (Defender)
"Sully" played in every position in the back
four at some stage during the season. The tall, hard
working defender improved with every game and gave a
memorable performance in the final league game against
Castletown Celtic which culminated in the title coming
back to Clonakilty.
|
| |
|
| |
Aidan
Pendlebury (Defender and Vice-Captain)
The self-proclaimed "Pendeliniho" became a
revelation on the left wing for Clonakilty AFC this
season. With his modern hair-do and funky football boots,
Pendeliniho was a constant threat to defence's and hair
stylists throughout West Cork. The Vice Captain was
on hand in the final league game to lift the trophy
and gave an emotional acceptance speech.
|
| |
|
| |
Micheal
Griffin (Defender)
"Mikey" returned to Clonakilty AFC this
season and became a rock at the centre of the Clonakilty
AFC defence. Known for his amazing on-pitch impressions
of Michael Jackson "HHHEEEE-hee" and 1970's
dance moves, Mikey quickly became a hit with the club's
older generation of fans. Member of the last Clonakilty
AFC league winning team in 1992-1993.
|
| |
|
| |
Dave
McCarthy (Defender)
"Carts" quickly became the hard-man of the
Clonakilty AFC team with his no-nonsense tackling and
that was just in training. A loyal servant to the team
throughout the year, he also doubled up as Personal
Body Guard for Martin White on his night's out.
|
| |
|
| |
Ger
McCarthy (Defender)
What more can be said or written about "Mac",
this ageless Clonakilty AFC superstar? Scored the club's
best goal of the year against Castletown Celtic back
in October 2005. Member of the last Clonakilty AFC league
winning team in 1992-1993. Writes part-time for the
Evening Echo.
|
| |
|
| |
Lorne
Edmead (Defender/Midfielder)
The evergreen Lorne was an able defender and midfielder
for the club whenever called upon this season. Despite
following the relegated Birmingham City, Lorne can console
himself with the fact he will pick up the award for
"most late attendances at training " for this
year. Coach of the Under14 side which won the Under14
Shield competition this season.
|
| |
|
| |
Stephen
O'Regan (Defender / Midfielder)
"Steve-O" had his season cruelly cut short
by injury and as a result missed the second half of
the season. Played brilliantly both in defence and midfield
for the Club during the first half of the season. Hopefully
his return from injury will see him play more games
in Division1 next season.
|
| |
|
| |
George
Birliea (Defender)
"The Moldovan Maradonna" played his heart
out in defence for Clon this year. Georgie is a favourite
amongst the players and his now much famed "Georgie-Dance"
has become a regular warm up routine in the Clonakilty
AFC training schedule.
|
| |
|
| |
Donal
O'Donoghue (Defender)
Donal was moved to the left back position in the latter
stages of the season and it proved a master stroke,
as the young defender became one the sides' most consistent
players. Donal scored one of the clubs goal's of the
season against Mizen AFC earlier in the year.
|
| |
|
| |
Bosley
Lawless (Defender)
"Boz" trained and played for Clonakilty AFC
in the early part of the 2005 / 2006 season and was
and still is one of the club's favourites players. Despite
having to follow Aston Villa, Bosley is always in good
form and is long-time loyal servant of the club.
|
| |
|
| |
Ian
O'Driscoll (Midfielder)
"Bob the builder" is certainly one of
the 'characters' in the team. Ian is a kick-boxing /
karate-chopping winger who played superbly throughout
the year for the club. Was also part of the Under18
team who reached the West Cork Under18 Cup final this
season.
|
| |
|
| |
Steve
McDermott (Midfielder)
"Stevie" is one of the best natural
footballers in the squad. His performances steadily
improved as the season went on and Steve put in some
man-of-the-match performances in the run-in to the title.
Is set to become a WCL referee in the months ahead.
|
| |
|
| |
Tim
McDermott (Midfielder)
"Timmy" is the only Chelski supporter
in the squad, thank God. Although his constant impressions
of Jose Mourinho might become more tolerable now that
Clon AFC are also known as: "We are the Champions
(In Portuguese accent)." Timmy played superbly
in midfield for Clon throughout the year and also scored
a sensational goal in the Under18 final.
|
| |
|
| |
Martin
White (Midfielder)
"Marty", the table-dancing, singing
party animal, is in many people's eyes, Clon AFC's player
of the year. A whopping 15 goals in league and cup helped
Clon lift the title. Marty also went on to represent
the West Cork League selection, who at the time of writing,
are set to contest the All-Ireland final in the weeks
ahead.
|
| |
|
| |
Liam
Anthony White (Midfielder)
"Mandy", the younger brother of Marty,
is one of the fastest players in the club. The speedy
winger terrorized West Cork League defence's throughout
the year. Liam was also a member of the Under18 squad
this season and is a player for the future.
|
| |
|
| |
David
Gilbert (Midfielder)
"Gilly" arrived into the Clonakilty
AFC squad half way through the season and was a huge
asset to the title winning side. Tough in the tackle
and always available for a pass (including in the Kilty),
Gilly has ben a loyal servant to the club for many years.
|
| |
|
| |
Eoin
Deasy (Midfielder)
Eoin played in the early part of the season for
Clonakilty AFC and was a much valued squad member. A
very quick and strong defensive midfielder who's presence
has been sorely missed by the squad.
|
| |
|
| |
John
O'Brien (Forward)
"Homer" is another ever-green player
who returned to the Clonakilty AFC fold this season
and played his heart out and yes, he finally got his
Jakko tracksuit. Homer had to travel long distance to
join up with the squad for training from his home Tralee
in Co. Kerry. A member of the 1995 Beamish Cup winning
side. |
| |
|
| |
Jonathan
Hunt (Forward)
"Hunty" was one of the star forwards of the
side this year. Another of the over 30 brigade who blended
in well with the younger members of the squad. Famed
for his unbelievable and gruelling training routines,
he is by far, the hardest trainer in the club.. if you
discount everyone else. Scored some vital goals in the
title run-in. A member of the 1995 Beamish Cup winning
side.
|
| |
|
| |
Witlod
Frececk (Forward)
The Polish superstar entertained the crowd(s) this year
with his unusual goal-scoring and diving techniques.
"Witech's" English improved as the year went
on and he was always on hand to offer a laugh and a
giggle if you fell over in training. Worked tirelessly
on the right wing and up front for the club whenever
called upon this year.
|
| |
|
| |
Ciaran
Calnan (Forward)
"Hendrix" scored some vital goals for the
club this year, but none more vital than the winner
against Castletown, in the final game of the season.
An accomplished musician who sings / plays regularly
in Clonakilty with fellow entertainer, Ger McCarthy.
Ciaran also played with distinction for the Under18's
this season.
|
| |
|
| |
Chris
McCarthy (Forward)
Chris represented the club fleetingly in the early part
of the season but made a huge contribution to the Clonakilty
title winning cause when he grabbed two sensational
goals against Sullane in the 4-2 victory back in September
2005.
