Clonakilty AFC have been crowned West Cork League Division 2 Champions for the 2005 / 2006 season. Clonakilty defeated Castletown Celtic 2-1 in Castletown last Friday night to clinch their first trophy since 1995. Martin White and Ciaran Calnan scored the goals that helped Clon clinch the title. It was a nerve-wracking final game played out in Casteltown last Friday night that finally brought the league title silverware back to Clonakilty for the first time since 1993.

Clonakilty took the lead early in the first half when a free kick from Martin White was spilled into the net. Castletown equalised soon afterwards, but Clonakilty were not to be outdone and a superb move ended with Ciaran Calnan finishing into the net to give Clonakilty AFC a lead of 2-1 they never relinquished. The referee played seven minutes of injury time and there were some scary moments in front of the Conakilty goal, but the Brewery Town lads held out for a famous
victory.

Huge credit must go to manager Chris Connors and coach Noel Walsh for their efforts throughout a very long season. Thanks also to our many supporters who travelled to all the matches during the season. To Paddy McCarthy and Chairman, James O'Hea for their help and support. Huge thanks too to Paddy O'Regan for the use of the Inchydoney pitch and a word of gratitude to Jerry O'Brien (Club President) for keeping the home turf in Inchydoney in immaculate condition throughout the year. Thanks to Josephine McCarthy for loking after the team kit. A final word of thanks to all the club sponsors. The junior team's kit was kindly sponsored by Forristal's Pharmacy for the 2005 / 2006 season. O'Brien's, the Courthouse bar provided sandwiches and light refreshments for the Clon AFC team and visiting sides all year.
